This album celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the first two Andy Murkin albums, From Aardvark to Zebra and Goodbye Finisterre, which were originally released in 2002 and 2003.
It consists of new versions of 10 songs from those albums.
1 From A to Z (Fast) [2:28] is a rerecorded version of the tune, incorporating some of my homemade EXS24 instruments.
2 How Can You Say . . . ? [7:15] is a slightly edited version of the track originally released on the album Zoo Time in 2007. Guitar: 1969 Gibson SG Standard.
3 Islington [1:16], like From A to Z (Fast), is a rearranged and rerecorded version of the main theme, incorporating some of the homemade EXS24 instruments.
4 Words [9:47] is a new version of the track, incorporating material from the original 4-track cassette master tapes. Guitar: 1969 Gibson SG Standard.
5 Words, Pt 3 [2:01] is a rerecorded version of this part of the song, using mainly the homemade EXS24 instruments.
6 Spy Song Musical Box [1:30] is a version of the Theme from an Imaginary Spy Film created on my 32-note mechanical musical box, which produces sounds by means of a strip of card which is passed through the device, wound by a handle.
7 Opening Time [7:48] was first released on 2020 Vision in 2020. Guitar solo: unbranded Fender Stratocaster-style guitar with scalloped frets.
8 Perpendicular Ideal of the Glasshouse, Pt 2 [7:19] is an edited version of the track originally released on Birds, Bees, Bells, Clocks and Keys in 2021. Guitars: Verses and 1st solo, 1969 Gibson SG Standard; 2nd solo, Burny RLC-85S SW.
9 Tobacco Fumes Away (Theme from The Shipping Forecast) [1:23] is a new arrangement of the tune for the homemade EXS24 instruments.
10 From A to Z (Slow) [12:26] is a new recording of this tune, incorporating new material and material from the original 4-track cassette master tapes. Guitars: 1st solo, unbranded EDS-1275 copy with Sustainiac Stealth pickup; 2nd solo, 1969 Gibson SG Standard.
All tracks were arranged, performed and produced by Andy Murkin. Tobacco Fumes Away (Theme from The Shipping Forecast) was written by Thomas Ravenscroft (c.1592-c.1635); all the other tracks were written by Andy Murkin.
